Perfomance Specification

This project comes with a list of explicit design requirements that need to be met by any system.  On top of these explicit design requirements there are implicit requirements that were not stated in the documentation but still must be followed to achieve success.   Because this project is a competition judged by humans a certain “coolness factor” must be taken into account.

Explicit Design Requirement

-       Wash entire surface of 5’x6’ window with a vertical or horizontal separator

-       Tether permitted

-       Robot does not contact ground

-       Robot can have up to 2 ft2 footprint (retracted, if applicable)

-       Aspect ratio is not restricted.

-       Window surface not scratched or damaged

-       No installation of infrastructure external to robot

-       Glass window on stand, window borders, “dirt” applied via brown or black marker

-       Window Washer can be manually placed at any desired start position

-       100% coverage with speed >=10 ft.2/min.

-       Clean to visual inspection from 3 ft. away

-       No streaking or significant residual moisture 30 sec. after end time

-       The robot must carry any and all cleaning supplies with it

-       The dimension of the window shows in Figure 1

Implicit Requirements

-       Robot must be able to attach to the window

-       Robot must be able to move while attached to the window.

-       Robot must wipe the window with a wet surface

-       Robot must be able to cross divider.

Coolness Factor

-       Travel with low power consumption by using suction cups instead of strong fans

-       Relocate the robot itself when crossing a separator to ensure 100% coverage

-       Posible stretch to clean the parts previously hidden by suction cups

-       No Tether
